Different colors and visible bright and vibrant light means color pops out. That is the beauty of the sunset.
In 2017, Leah approached me with a blog topic: On Beautiful Sunsets.
She brought me both physical photos that she had accumulated over the years as well as dozens of pictures on her phone. It quickly became clear that this was very important to her.
Whenever I would ask her what exactly about sunsets she wanted to share with people, she couldn’t ever find the words. She just was certain this was something she needed to share. When moments like this arise, I try not to let my narrow-mindedness take over.
She then provided me with about 30+ pictures of sunsets…each with an in-depth description of their colors and shadows…the trees and the light. If you’ve gotten to know Leah by now, you know that keeping things short isn’t her speciality.
What was I supposed to do with this?
Well it’s taken me over two years, but once I finally gave her blog post idea the attention that it deserved, it couldn’t have been clearer.
The why? The why was in the beauty that surrounds us every day and the option that we have to embrace it. The sun has been setting for as long as we have been moving and shaking. This is an important event, and Leah recognized that.
So often we associate light with day. But it isn’t until that life-giving sun of ours decides to rest that the light spreads itself out in that majestic way it does. It shines on us all day long, but it’s when the sun is heading off to sleep when the show really begins.
That’s when something inside of us connects so deeply with the beauty in front of us. We bask in the wonder. It’s a gift we’re given over and over throughout our lives. A day is ending, but another day will come. It’s light and dark and old and new. It’s upside down and in between.
Happy Earth Day, folks.
The first thing when you see the sunset is that you see the couple of places of the sun when it start to go down. You start to see it on the left side and off to the right side.
And then it starts to spread the color out. And it starts to be bright as it goes down.
Different colors and visible bright and vibrant light means color pops out. That is the beauty of the sunset. And when the beautiful color pops out you can enjoy it by to relax and to feel good inside.
Some people love to see the sunsets. And some people don’t want to do that. It is a thing that people have other things to do and they need to go see other things too. That is your option.
When the sun start to go into the clouds in the sky behind the trees it start to get super bright yellow and the colors comes out of it across the sky and around the sun too. There are bright white and light blue colors behind the trees. Bright yellow and orange red it comes out too and it spreads the colors out.
And this is what all of us see when we watch the sunset all together. It feels really good and wonderful. We all feel excited to see the beauty of the sunset from outside together. It make our day when it do its thing that all of us love and it brings us all joy.
In Leah’s writings about every single sunset picture, she would finish it in the context of community.
We watch the sunset all together…it brings us all joy.
It really is a unifying feeling to watch that sun of ours head off to bed. Light is being spread over us, together.
This Earth Day, let’s soak it in. Let’s let the light spread on us in community, even though we are all in a season of isolation.
Let it make our day when it do its thing that all of us love.
And let it bring us all joy.
Here’s to turning our minds Upside Down.

Lindsay, that painting is absolutely gorgeous! I didn’t know you love to paint. That is wonderful! My aunt was an artist and painted the most beautiful pictures. She also gave art lessons to kids and adults.
